service
Jesus showed how to serve. He served his own disciple by washing their feet. In fact that was the only time. His whole ministry was a ministry of service. From healing the sick, teaching the word and feeding the hungry, he demonstrated that his service had mo boundaries. Most remarkably he took notice if the rejected and unimportant people in society. He invited a tax collector to be one of his close friends, He exalted the poor widow and he dined with a wee man who had to climb a tree just to see him. Well today's sermon was about service. Steven said something that caught my attention. He said that as Christian we should not be driven by the desire to serve but by the love we have for Jesus. Of u gonna serve Jesus, first listen to him. He read the passage where Elisha followed Elijah for a while before he was appointed for service. This brought to my mind a story in the bible that i read a few days ago. It is the story of two sisters, Mary and Martha. One sister is busy preparing food in the kitchen and the other is listening to Jesus. the first sister gets frustrated and asks Jesus to tell the other to join her. I believe that she was trying to get Jesus on he side. You see service can be frustrating if you are not doing it the right way. Another scripture that comes to my mind is when Jesus says that some people will go to him saying but we cast demons in your name and healed the sick and Jesus will reply, go away I do not know you. This really gets me thinking about what service should really be about.I know the commandment given to us by Jesus was to love God with out everything and to love all men as we love ourselves. Ever noticed that when you really love someone it is so easy to do stuff for them without even complaining. In fact it is a pleasure to serve them. Try serving someone whom you think is annoying, by the end of it you will find it frustrating. How hard can it be to love God? He is perfect. By human judgement it is much easier to love someone who is sweet, kind, honest and all those nice things. Ever herd of the word adorable? Yer describes my daughter, but the point is people use such words to describe how easy it is to love some people. Well God is eternally Good . It's very easy to love him once you get to know him. If you really love him serving him should be a pleasure.
